Registration Now Available for 15th Color Imaging Conference: Color Science and Engineering Systems, Technologies, and Applications

Co-sponsored by SID and the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T), CIC15 will be held November 5-9, 2007 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

This single-track meeting, complemented by an interactive paper session, tutorials, and robust networking events, features in-depth papers covering the latest usage of color in medical imaging, spatial color-gamut mapping, gamut computation, color correction, high-dynamic-range imaging, spectral imaging, mobile displays, color appearance, and more.

Featured Keynote presentations will include:

• Terry Regier, Associate Professor in the University of Chicago's Department of Psychology, will speak on color naming and the effect of language on perception.

• Scott Tyo, Associate Professor of Optical Sciences and of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Arizona, will discuss combining hyperspectral and polarization contrast images into a unified color image.

• Fred Schubert, Wellfleet Senior Constellation Professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, will talk about LEDs in color imaging.

• David Haaland, Senior Scientist at the Cancer Biology Research Program at Sandia National Laboratories, will present "Hyperspectral Imaging: Converting Colors to Molecular Information."

CIC15 will take place at the Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town in Albuquerque, New Mexico. To learn more about the conference or to register, please visit www.imaging.org/conferences/CIC15, or go to www.sid.org and click on "conferences."

Former SID President Allan Kmetz Visits UCF Chapter

On July 27, former SID President Dr. Allan R. Kmetz presented an invited seminar on the brief history of display development at the College of Optics and Photonics at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando, Florida. The event was hosted by the SID UCF Student Branch and was attended by some 40 faculty and graduate students.

Prior to the seminar, College of Optics and Photonics Research Director Dr. James Pearson gave Dr. Kmetz a brief introduction on the college and a lab tour around the research facilities. Afterwards, Professor Shin-Tson Wu, the chapter's SID student branch advisor, introduced his research group and presented a series of student lab demos. Professor Wu's Photonics and Display group also made presentations to Dr. Kmetz highlighting their latest research accomplishments.

The SID UCF Student Branch, founded in 2005, has about 20 members. The chapter has hosted 14 invited technical seminars and one visit to a local company since its inauguration.
